Another big phone and its stylus are giving the Samsung Galaxy Note some company.
The Samsung Galaxy Note is getting some company in the emerging world of mega-smartphones from LG's Optimus Vu, which has been revealed ahead of the upcoming Mobile World Congress.
The world is now home to at least two 5-inch Korean-made Android smartphones that are blurring the line between phone and tablet and attempting to resurrect the stylus. Like the Galaxy Note, the Optimus Vu is designed with a pen-friendly interface in mind. LG also claims the 4:3 aspect ratio on the Optimus Vu as a central selling point--a Korean press release touts the huge screen space and brightness as ideal for reading e-books and other content.
Unlike the Galaxy Note, however, the LTE-enabled Optimus Vu won't be immediately available in the U.S. It should debut in Korea first, next month--initially running Android Gingerbread on a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor. LG says to expect an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade within three months of the roll-out.
Now that there are at least two 5-inch mega-phones on the market, perhaps they'll breed, flooding the mobile market with this odd new form factor. Will 2012 be the year of the 5-inch screen spring? Let us know in the comments section whether you think big phones will take off.
